RCRD Joining hands with Government

Workshop for the publication

RCRD Nepal has been joining hands with the Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare to implement various events regarding disability rights issues. Currently it has been involving for the publication of a resource book which gives a complete information of disability related facilities, services and opportunities that are provided by the state and non-state sector to people with disabilities in Nepal. This book will be an easy tool for each individual with disability to have detail information about the services, facilities and legal provisions that he/she deserves from state and non-state sectors. The other equally involved important partners in this effort are Karuna Foundation Nepal, Action Aid Nepal, National Federation of the Disabled Nepal, Save the Children in Nepal and Handicap International Nepal. The picture is a short glance of a workshop organized by Ministry on November 6, 2009 to collect feedback on the resource book from closely related stakeholders.

RCRD Distributed Prosthetic semi-functional hands
August 1, 2009, Bhaktapur
In a clinic jointly organized by RCRD-Nepal and Women Power Development Center in Bhaktapur, prosthetic semi-functional hands were distributed to 29 persons with disabilities who has lost their hands below the elbow because of different reasons. Made with very simple technology and can be used for daily activities such as to catch things, brush tooth, hold bags, catch spoon, hold pen etc, these hands were provided by McConnell Foundation of USA and produced by LN-4 hands. This types of clinic had also been organized before by the same organizations on June 5, 2009 and 21 persons with disabilities had taken such types of hands. The next such types of clinic will be in November.

Secretary of MWCSW in CBR Review Meeting – Pokhara

RCRD Nepal and Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare jointly organized annual CBR review meeting and orientation program in Pokhara on June 24-26, 2009. In the program the secretary of ministry M/s Bindra Hada was the chief guest. RCRD and the Ministry had jointly facilitated the three days program. In the program 50 representatives from Government supported CBR program implementing NGO and District level Government focul persons for disability issues of various districts had actively participated.

Director of RCRD (Resource Center for Rehabilitation and Development), Surya Prajapati comes from a background in political science, but turned to social work early in his career after spending a year in a remote village in the western district of Nepal.

CBR Training for the Year 2009

RCRD Facility

RCRD is conducting its annual 100 days Basic Community Based Rehabilitation Training for CBR Facilitators since Jun 8th, 2009. This year altogether 17 participants representing from various organizations of different districts have participated.

This Training provides a comprehensive information, knowledge and skills to work for promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities basically by enhancing the community and mobilizing the local resources in rural areas. Through this training the participants also get skill of advocacy and leadership to lead various disability related issues in local level. 

RCRD Provides Training and hostel facilities for the participants and training organizers at a very reasonable price.
